Silent Rhythm
Each ceramic ovoid is handmade and wheel-turned made from low-fire white earthenware clay. The surface is treated with Terra Sigillata and Saggar or Raku fired using horsehair, swan feathers
and other organic materials
‘Silent Rhythm’ explores the mystery of life inherent in all forms and beings. It investigates the intrinsic relationship between body and soul, inside and outside, life and lifelessness. At the core is the invisible inside. The illusion of an unseen process animates the inanimate from within. The emotive expression of ‘the being inside’ presents itself via its own unique movement, governed by their individual, ovoid, delicately off-centred, exterior form. The movement renders visible the unique character housed in each apparently uniform multiple. An invisible inner driving force constantly transforms, strives and grows but also waits for metamorphosis to complete. There is a struggle between inside and outside. Dreams and desires of the ephemeral soul within are confronted by the confines of the limited, fragile and finite body without.
