Delicate Pattern

'Delicate Pattern' is a ceramic light installation in homage to my grandmother. Knitted porcelain sheets radiate tradition, transformation and interpretation of thought-patterns from one generation to the next. DNA-like lace patterns speak of inheritance, a passing on of tradition, craft, skill and thought. A single thread of wool transformed by the movement of hands into soft, knitted fabric is transcribed through plaster into delicate fragile porcelain and transcended into light. Origins trace back to my childhood of being taught the art of knitting through my grandmother’s hands. It is a subtle communiqué between generations constantly transforming, mutating and evolving.
